Got a day or two with nothing planned?

here’s some ideas of what to do when bored !

Get in the car!

Load up on the go go juice and hit the road! Find someplace that is a day trip or maybe an overnight.

**Do NOT attempt this. You WILL die**

We live on Long Island. One Friday afternoon, we decided to take a 6 hour car ride south just to drive over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.

Found a hotel, woke up, drove BACK over and came home. Silly? Yes. But we did it! Why not, right?

what to do when bored

You don’t need to drive that far. But a fun car ride with your family, significant other or best friend might just be the perfect day.

Find an outlandish recipe

Did you ever see the movie Julie and Julia? One woman’s quest to try EVERY Julia Childs recipe from her first book. Some of them were awesome and some of them bombed but she set out on that quest to get it done.

Do a little research and find something pretentious to cook. Maybe beef bourguignon? Chicken Francese? Shrimp Scampi? Something completely foreign? Have you every learned to scramble eggs? Plan a day or two in advance and you’re set for some fun and yum!

halfway to st patty’s day or any other holiday for that matter

Staying on the food theme here for a little while, why not celebrate a holiday when it’s completely inappropriate? Corned beef and cabbage? Are you serving green beer too? I’m in!

How about Thanksgiving in July (I know, I know, Christmas in July – but it just seemed to roll off the tongue here.) Put together a stuffed turkey on the grill (you’ll thank me later) and have an outdoor Thanksgiving Feast that your friends and family will thank you for.

Bake a batch of cupcakes. Make or buy some frosting, then buy a Wilton decorating kit and go to town! Have too many cupcakes? Give them to your neighbors too!

Invite friends over for a daytime fire pit. Everyone brings something new to try.

Buy 6 different beers or wines and make flights for your friends.

Backyard, outdoor possibilities are endless.

Be a kid again

On a rainy day, you don’t need to have kids to do this.

Build a blanket fort.

Set yourself up for the day with comfort food and your favorite movies. Watch while in your fort and eat picnic style. It’s different. It’s fun. Dance as if no one is watching, right?

Sunny day? Go to a local park. Swing on the swings. Go down the slide. Don’t knock little children over.

go play

Get some friends together for kick ball.

We have a town close by, StonyBrook, NY that has an amazing park with hiking trails and a duck pond. It’s a great way to waste a few hours of the day and not have a phone in front of our face (unless of course you are sending pics to family and friends about how much fun you are having)

Go to your local library and rent a gaming system. Play wii bowling all day. How about some Mario cart? Animal Crossing? Your library has a plethora of items that you can rent for fun at home.

go back to school-ish

What else can you do when bored?

Did you know that you can take Tennis lessons from Andre Agassi for $14.99? For reals!

Or what I need now, teaching your child to drive???

How about revisiting my suggestion up above? Cooking lessons!

The options are endless. Spend a weekend learning something new. By yourself or with family, it has to be fun!

virtual happy hour

Didn’t we all learn to do this all of 2020? I have to say, it kind of fell off a bit once the kids were slowly going back to school. We had a few calls over the holidays but it’s kind of gone again.

There are still many family and friends that we can’t get together with.

We all need to go shopping for our favorite beverages – alcoholic or not – grab some pub fare and make the call.

Catch up with family that you just haven’t spoken to in a while.

stay home and do nothing

One of the best ideas of what to do when bored – NOTHING.

When was the last time you PLANNED to do nothing? Forced yourself to just STOP and recharge.

Order take out. Let the laundry sit. Just take care of yourself or family time.

No plans sometimes is the best plan. Give THAT a try

Your spontaneous road trip sounds heavenly! Even if it was just to drive over a bridge, it still sounds fun! I need to do things like this more often with my family.

Thank you! My teenage boys still say how much they love when I hop on the swingset while we are hanging out on the patio. It’s still but I love to swing and it makes them happy too
