Technically, I started blogging last June (2020). But I actually start counting January 2021 as the real deal because I upgraded my website. I am trying to keep posts monthly on the learning curve.

I started on Wix and now it’s WordPress and Bluehost.

Searching through Facebook, I found Start A Blogging Business. Heather and Pete Reese run a pretty good ship over at their Facebook page. I am grateful for the assist on the new blog and support over the past several weeks.

Personally, I still haven’t purchased any ebooks yet from anyone. I sign up for every freebie from bloggers that I like and I continually learn daily. My mailbox may be overflowing, but I try to read each one and save what I find to be the most important in the moment.

Sometimes I relearn things I forgot that I read weeks prior. But they are stepping stones.

What I do like about many of the bloggers out there is that they talk about patience. The promises of thousands of dollars in your first month of blogging is quite truly a load of crap. Please don’t fall for it.

You need to work. This isn’t something to write about and then make a million dollars with. Don’t fall for the “I made 10,000 dollars a month my first month blogging”. Crap. Total crap.

Be real. Be realistic. Focus and look at the big picture. I STILL haven’t made any money. As much as I would like to say that I have been rolling in the dough, I am focused on content instead. Once I know that I have GOOD content and my readers can trust in what I write, then I know that I will make progress.

That still hasn’t stopped me from adding affiliate links all over the place. I feel that they at least should be in place should I get lucky one day.

Okay. So here goes – I’m not going to tell you how to start a blog. I barely knew how to do it, needed assistance, took the help and here I am. I will however, let you know who I am learning from right now and sending my numbers up.

BLOGGING TERMS

From all the reading I have done over the past 2 months, I want to share the more important terms I’ve learned and the groups that I receive the most engagement from.

• SEO – search engine optimization. You NEED to do use this. I added Rank Math to my wordpress site to help me develop my skills.
• BACKLINKS – make nice with other bloggers and get backlinks to each others blogs. This helps with your DA
• PINGBACKS/INTERLINK – Important to link blog posts to one another within your site. Each story leads to another.
• EMAIL LISTS – Right now this is something that I don’t really have. I’m working on coming up with a freebie to give away. I haven’t figured out what it is that I want to give away.
• PINTEREST – it’s a search engine. SEO the hell out of those titles and use the ALT TEXT option as well when pinning your pins. Templates and script matter also.
• INSTAGRAM – Add smart bio to your about section and you’ll be able to then link to your blog – other wise you’ll constantly be changing the “link in bio”
• FACEBOOK – you absolutely should have a Facebook page to go along with your blog. Instagram is owned by Facebook so you are also able to cross post.
• TWITTER – still not a huge fan. I post from within my blog post but haven’t really seen any increase in followers
• TAILWIND – pin scheduler for Pinterest. This is a great idea. Also, join communities. They are a tremendous source of help with helping your pins to go viral. I 1000% know that using tailwind has helped the numbers go up on my pins – click on Tailwind and you will be clicking through on my affiliate link. A little for you, a little for me. We both win. • CANVA – I have been using Canva since January. I started with the freebies but have since done a Paid For program to have use of all the stock images. My pins have become works of art as to compared when to when I started.
• PICMONKEY – Have only used them once. Pretty much same idea as Canva in helping with images for pins. Check them out for yourself. I don’t really have a review on them yet but thought they were important enough to mention.
• DA – Domain Authority – essentially, how many people backlink to your website. On a scale of 0 – 100, I’m 1
• KEYWORD – A keyword is a primary term or phrase that describes the content of a blog post
• LONG TAILED KEYWORD – Focusing on long-tail keywords is a great SEO tactic. Long-tail keywords are keywords or keyphrases that are more specific – and usually longer – than more commonly used keywords. Long-tail keywords get less search traffic, but will usually have a higher conversion value, as they are more specific
• META DESCRIPTION – The meta description is a snippet of up to about 155 characters – a tag in HTML – which summarizes a page’s content. Search engines show it in search results mostly when the searched-for phrase is within the description
• YOAST SEO VS RANK MATH (I SWITCHED TO RANK MATH AND THE DIFFERENCE IS HUGE) – Yoast was the first SEO tool I worked with. Red Lights and Green Lights. That’s what I got. When I tried Rank Math, again working with a scale of 1-100, I now score 87 and higher with my posts and it makes me happy. I still don’t add a Table of Contents which apparently is bringing down my score, but everything else I seem to be getting very good at.
• CLICK FUNNEL – This has to do with your email subscribers and what you plan to give away for free and it funnels down to a page that has a “paid for” item that you have made.

Above is just a short list of NEED TO KNOW words. Each month, I hope to be able to add to this list and help you become a more knowledgable blogger.

fACEBOOK GROUPS (in no particular order)

This list is just amazing – I visit every one of these pages more than once a week. Sometimes I do a little TOO much and can get overwhelmed in the follow through. If you sign up to do a daily thread, you really need to return the love. Some have very specific follow rules, some are a little more loose. Either way, you give what you get. And you can get A LOT from this list.

• BLOGGING BABES COLLECTIVE – OK – Sasha was one of the first pages I found myself returning to repeatedly for advice. Her blog, https://everydayshessparkling.com/ is an outstanding source of free materials. The Ultimate Blogging Toolkit for Beginners is a free source of over 100 tools and resources that truly helped me out. Check it out here https://everydayshessparkling.vipmembervault.com/af/437115/1 6.1K members, hightly interactive and daily engagement. I will continue to recommend Sasha the Blogging Babes Collective.
• PINFINITE TRAFFIC FOR BLOGGERS – This Facebook page is run by Jen Towkaniuk. Daily Pinterest interactions that include comments, repins and sharing. I have received A LOT of interaction from this group. I highly recommend you get involved with this group if Pinterest is one of your social media go to’s. 1.4K members of this group.
• START A BLOGGING BUSINESS 230.1k MEMBERS!!!!! – The reason I am able to write this post to you today, as I have mentioned earlier. I was in a rut in my old platform. I started randomly searching on Facebook for blogging forums and now here I am. Thanks to Heather and Pete Reese of ItsALovelyLife.com, I have an updated blog, unlimited WP support and monthly challenges to complete. I have not signed up for Blogging Blastoff 2.0 yet. I have read wonderful reviews and I would think when your following is over a quarter million strong, they are doing something right and it’s got to be worth it. It’s just a matter of timing for me. I’m sure in future posts I will be doing a little pingback to this here post!!!!
• BECOMING A BLOGGER – Cate Rosales of SweetandSimpleLife.com runs this group of 27.7K members. Post threads, Q&A, success stories. A group I was happy to have found, learning quite a bit. Cate’s blog also offers great freebies and paid-for courses. Daily threads are HUGE! You’ll definitely find people in your niche.
• BLOGGING FOR NEW BLOGGERS – The main purpose of this group is to share tips, offer feedback, have discussions and foster collaboration. We also have daily promo threads where we help you grow your blog and social media following. At 34K members, Lucrezia and Marina have made this page a success in helping other bloggers, especially with the LEGAL PAGES!!
• PINTEREST GROUP BOARDS – This is a community where users can promote their Pinterest, find new group boards, and collaborate with like-minded individuals. There are so many people looking to grow their boards and others looking to join established boards. 57K members strong
• BLOGGERS UNITE ON PINTEREST – Here’s another highly engaged group that will help with pin clicks, comments and follows. Jill Cappaert does a great job of running this group with daily interactions. Over 8,000 people involved in this group alone! I try to get in on this one every day.
• BLOGGING GUEST POSTS AND ENGAGEMENT – This group is relatively new and smaller in numbers, but that hasn’t stopped Danielle of TheCaffeinatedMomBlog.com from getting everyone involved. Lots of action out of this small community. At this smaller level of numbers right now, everyone is highly involved and communicative. I hope big things for Danielle’s page!
• PINTEREST FOR BUSINESS SUCCESS – This group is for business owners who would like to learn how to use Pinterest strategically to grow their business. Erica Armstrong runs this group of 1.3K members. I like that everyone is involved in answering questions with their experiences.
• MAMA TRIBE – another fabulous social share group. Mama Tribe is a group for all MOM bloggers to work together to grow their blogs. Rose Berry runs this group of 445 members and has daily threads that rotate which social media group being highlighted for the day. A weekly post schedule can be found in the ABOUT section. Great engagement in this group.
• MOM TO MOMPRENEUR – Elna Cain of Twinsmommy.com runs this group of 14.5K members. This is an educational and learning group to help moms with a blog or business grow and be successful online. Sign up for her emails of TONS of freebies through her website as well!!!
• BOSS BLOG COLLECTIVE – 617 members strong and growing, Nadalie Bardo and Marina Lotaif have daily threads as well as weekly chats. They are fun, energetic and a plethera of knowledge together!!
• SOCIAL MEDIA MAVENS SUPPORT GROUP – I actually just joined this group the other day. Social Media Mavens Support Group is a space for all female entrepreneurs to grow and engage on social media. From what I have seen so far, there is a lot of Instagram and Facebook follows. I’ll be able to update more on this group in the next month or so.
• PINTEREST FOR LADY BLOGGERS AND BUSINESS OWNERS Another new-ish group at 183 members, I have seen and engaged in a lot of posts in this group. While there are share threads here, there is also live trainings on pin design, scheduling, and keeping up with the algorithm changes.
• ROUNDUP PALOOZA – a great page to hook up with other bloggers and be featured in a roundup post on their website
• BLOGGER ROUNDUPS – same idea as above – most bloggers cross post between the two pages
• INSTAGRAM DAILY ENGAGEMENT GROUP – 65,000 members. That says something right there. Weekly follow threads, post comment threads, post like threads. This page should definitely be in your rotation if you have Instagram as part of your business blog.

YOU TUBE CHANNELS

• ANASTASIA BLOGGER Outstanding information about Pinterest. I have only watched a few videos but I have learned a lot and applied a little bit. SO. MUCH. INFORMATION! I have more work to do before I can do a full write up on what I have learned. As a side note, listening to her accent is totally adorable too! The videos are not too long and full of information and graphics.
• MILES BECKLER Miles Beckler is awesome. I actually only “discovered” him recently. He starts every video that I have seen saying how he gives away his information for free so that WE (as a community) can make money and spend it. He’s made his money and now wants to teach others how to do the same. He’s also the reason that I haven’t paid for any courses yet. I want to get through the videos that I feel pertain to me in the meantime. He is a wealth of information and breaks everything down step by step. I am learning SO MUCH from the “How to Blog and Drive Massive Traffic” videos. Right now in the note taking stages of the videos, and I can’t WAIT to implement them. Everything is starting to make so much more sense!

NUMBERS

I most certainly saw numbers jump in February. This part was a bit exciting for me!!!!

• FACEBOOK 115 – goal 130 119 likes, 123 followers
• INSTAGRAM 118 – goal 150 167 followers
• PINTEREST 167 – goal 200 1.9K FOLLOWERS 43.4K VIEWS
• TWITTER 12 no goal 21 follwers

So you can see where the effort was put in this month! LOL! Pinterest just blew me away. Part of that was early access to Pinterest Stories. I’ve made 4. I have learned so much about my pins (thanks again Sasha Lassey, Kristen from Applecartlane.com and Anastasia Blogger) for so much information.

EXTRAS

• CATCHY HEADLINES/POWER WORDS – Again, use Rank Math to make sure you are getting the most out of your headlines and SEO title.
• GOOGLE WANTS YOU TO ANSWER A QUESTION IN YOUR TITLE – Most searches begin with “how to……” Remember this when coming up with your answers.
• USE HEADINGS AND SUBHEADINGS – Rank Math also wants me to use a table of contents, but I personally scroll past all of them when they are on other blogs. I’m not going to add what I don’t use. At least not now.
• PHOTOS!! STOCK PHOTOS THAT USE THE ALT TEXT TO ADD SEO – another SEO thing of importance – using the ALT TEXT description to add your keyword.

Last Thoughts

Here’s a few last thoughts about all of this.

I am overwhelmed. Not going to lie. There’s so much to learn and I have to keep reminding myself that it’s OK to go slow and get it right the first time. I need to focus on one thing at a time.

I am a full time mom. I run a piano studio 4 days a week out of my home. My husband and I are putting together a home decor business. And then there’s this blog that I am trying to understand and grow.

I take all my “down time” to watch videos or read – while I’m waiting for my kids to get out of school, waiting for pickup from religion class, inbetween students if there’s a little break.

Blogging in the morning. Teaching in the afternoons. Weekends are for sawdust. Somewhere in there laundry, cooking and family time DOES happen!

We know that in the end we’re going to have something to be proud of.

Above all, I hope YOU are working on something to be proud of too!
