BIRTHDAYS AND CELEBRATIONS HAPPEN EVEN IN QUARANTINE
Sweet 16, Quinceanera, Batmitzvah, weddings, showers, and graduations
There. I said it. Whether we are quarantined or socially distanced, birthdays are going to happen.
Now that there is a surge in numbers again, the birthday parades are starting up again so that your special person can be celebrated one way or another. That’s where we come in.
Husband and I started a new business last year right before the insanity started. It was the year of the sweet 16 for the majority of my son’s friends and we couldn’t help but wonder if we had something.
We started off by “gifting” hand carved names that you would find at the fancy sweet 16 parties. The ones that are displayed with the candles.
However, since these were now parades, our sweetie friends now had their names on a table in their driveway as cars drove past! Just as special and fancy with a whole new level of fanfare!
The very first one we made was on the small side, but that’s Gabi’s personality. She likes understated and she’s quite shy.
We actually used a scroll saw for most of it and then hand sanded it. It seems a bit rough around the edges but it was our first go at it and well, the birthday girl did not seem to mind.
She still talks about it and that is what makes my heart smile the most.
Next up was Peyton – quite the opposite of our first birthday girl. She knew she wanted BIG so that’s what we gave her. More on her story down the line.
With warmer weather, we all started coming outdoors a bit more and we were able to socially distance on front lawns.
Wine fairies were fluttering about (so happy for the many deliveries I got) and the kids just seemed happier to be able to see faces for real instead of online.
Jordan had some friends over to celebrate her sweet 16 summer birthday. She too, like Peyton, wanted BIG – so that’s what we gave her.
I love that the kids knew colors and sizes immediately upon asking, as if they were waiting their turn for us to reach out to them
Next up was our Gracie girl. She has a certain aesthetic in her room and she likes things clean and simple. Small. One color. Done.
As we progressed, husband and I were really in sync with each other in how we worked. Of course, the man will never touch glitter and that’s fine with me.
But we were definitely able to troubleshoot letters and placement and so forth and got better with each name. So the next 4 varied on the smaller side and the font they chose.
Now I get to circle back around to Peyton. 6 months after her birthday, she had a party. Outdoors. When numbers were low and gatherings were still allowed at higher numbers. The evening could not have been more perfect!
This is when we were able to assemble her candelabra. But it was so different and I LOVED it!!!
Husband and I came up with a double sided star candle holder to take up an entire table for the candle ceremony. It was stunning ( almost as stunning as the birthday girl. ALMOST)
LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!
