SO. MUCH. READING.
I think I have said that before and I will probably say it in a whole lot more posts. I am learning so much and finding a lot of bloggers that I am just enjoying reading their words and advice.
I know for a fact that I am not a blogger about building a website. Right now, I am truly just laying the groundwork for myself. Sharing what I learn but by no means am I trying to teach how to build a website or blog.
I already know what our business is. I already know my favorite niches. But right now, our development is what I am enjoying writing about. As my husband is learning our fun new tools and documenting that, I am on the business end and we are certainly taking our time in this department. We didn’t truly have the time during quarantine to put together a full business plan where as we did more brainstorming about all the fun we were going to have with this new business adventure.
By sharing my basics for what WE are doing – we’re doing it as we need to, I feel like I am doing things at my pace.
I really wanted to start with the blog and add the affiliate links and then develop our story from there. I am already redesigning the website and during the holiday season we found what DIDN’T work for us. Now I know with a fresh start to the new year, I can approach the business side a bit differently.
So, #justagirlandherblog shared a post a while back and I have been reading so much of their blog. This one particular paragraph stood out to me and it was exactly what I have been feeling and thinking:
“A WORD ABOUT BLOGGING ABOUT BLOGGING
I’ve noticed a trend — people become interested in blogging, and instead of just starting, they go crazy with blogging research and online business building techniques. From there they start a blog about blogging. The intentions are good, and it’s a potentially lucrative niche, but these type of blogs usually fail. I recommend first building a successful blog in another niche and then at some point in the future taking what you’ve learned about building a successful blog or online business and teach others. This is exactly what Abby and I did.Abby had been blogging for a year and half and had grown a successful blog with hundreds of thousands of page views every month before she started teaching others how to do the same. There was some instant credibility because she had done it before. If you try to teach others about blogging without that same credibility, you are facing a massive uphill battle. It will be easier, more enjoyable, more profitable, and better for your readers if you create a blog about an unrelated topic first, and then teach others how to do the same based on your experiences. This is a tried and true formula.”
HOLY CRAP! That’s exactly what I feel. I don’t want to blog about blogging. I want to share what I have learned what is right FOR US. My business plan is different from yours and many others.
While we may have similar goals, I am approaching this the way that works best for me and I like to share what I am learning along the way. I definitely am in no position to be the teacher here and nor do I want to be. Atleast about blogging!
So, I learned about affiliate marketing and I learned SO MUCH about using the power of #pinterest. I will experiment with my foodie posts and crafting posts and hopefully sooner than later, our true passion about the woodworking business will be ready to leave the nest.
This is the beginning of a new adventure – one that my husband and I believe in together and can’t wait to see where it takes us. In the meantime, I’m just going to do what I do here. Work on content. Gather some new friends/followers. Maybe make a few extra dollars down the road.
Please wish us luck as I will wish the same for you. Hopefully something I learn and share will help you and so many of you have helped me to get my feet wet (and just like a cat, I hate water so this is TRULY out of my comfort zone!!LOL!!)
